Advanced Control Systems
Our Company History
July 1981
Louisiana Electric Rig Service (LERS) was founded by Integrated Power Systems (IPS) to service IPS systems in and around, Louisiana. IPS hired Ronnie Cothron, who was the Morgan City Electric (MC Electric) Service Manager at the time, to start their Louisiana Service Company. Jimmy Parrot and Jim Lynch quit MC Electric to join Ronnie at LERS. Gregory Chattin quit MC Electric to join LERS in August of 1981, and Raymond Smith quit Stutes Electric in New Iberia, LA to join LERS in September of 1984.
1982-1989
West Texas, Wyoming, and Oklahoma Electric Rig Service companies were closed during the 80’s downturn. In addition to servicing IPS systems, Louisiana Electric branched out to service all brands of oilfield power systems. We began supplying top drive control systems to drilling contractors for Varco top drives and worked with National Oilwell to develop the electrical controls for their Power Swivel (Top drive).
1989
Louisiana Electric Rig Service was purchased from IPS by Ronnie Cothron, Gregory Chattin, and Raymond Smith.
1989-2008
LERS designed all control systems for the National Oilwell top drives, wired the top drives at the National Houston Facility, and supplied personnel and installation materials for the electrical installations on domestic and international drilling rigs. LERS designed and manufactured control systems for BJ Services cement units. We also designed and supplied power systems for drilling contractors and did many power systems upgrades on land and offshore rigs in the domestic and international markets.
1992
Louisiana Electric opened our Houston Office on Rockley Road.
In the 90’s National started buying the oilfield power and controls system manufacturers Ross Hill, Tech Power, IPS, and Baylor. Since our background was power systems and National was becoming a single source for power systems we designed our own DC drive. Due to the difficulty of marketing a “New Drive”, we designed replacement electronics for IPS and Ross Hill Systems. We could then offer our customers power systems that were compatible with IPS and Ross Hill.
2002
Keith Kostelnik joined LERS as Director of Engineering. Jeremi Ball joined LERS as Director of Sales.
2008
LERS was acquired by IDM Equipment and our parent company reorganized into Global Energy Services (GES).
2011
Jeremi Ball (Director of Sales) and Keith Kostelnik (Director of Engineering) leave LERS to form a new venture (Advanced Control Systems (ACS) with the intent of competing directly with LERS.
2012
LERS was acquired by Independence Contract Drilling (ICD) for the purpose of being ICD’s rig building division for the expansion program ICD was going to start. ACS began discussions to acquire LERS from ICD.
2013
ACS acquired the assets and intellectual property of LERS from ICD and merged those assets and IP with ACS.
